Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal of Agra is one of the eight wonders of the world and perhaps the only one dedicated to Love. Its architectural beauty and marvelous precision surpassed all architectural forms. The Taj is the most beautiful monument built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The entire mausoleum is built entirely in white marble. Its stunning fountains and gardens create a dream ambience especially when the Taj Mahal glows in the light of the full moon.

Taj Mahal is the most well preserved and architecturally beautiful tomb in the world. It is studded with precious stones. In the basement is the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal and the tomb of Shah Jehan. The emperor had intended that a Black Taj be built across the Jamuna where his body would be kept. However his son Emperor Aurangzeb, who imprisoned his father in Agra Fort and took over the throne, buried him alongside of Mumtaz. Tourists from all over the world and even State Guests make it a point to be photographed at the Taj. Also close by is the famous Agra Fort. So exquisite is the workmanship that the Taj has been described as "having been designed by giants and finished by jewelers".
