Hampi

Hampi, the former capital of the Vijaynagar Empire which ruled the West Coast of India, has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. It is an unforgettable experience. In its ruins lie secrets which are now being excavated. So, come and be a witness to the unraveling of history. The ruins silently narrate the story of grandeur and splendor of the Hindu Kingdom and its fabulous wealth. The splendid remains of palaces and gateways of the broken city tell’s a tale of man’s infinite talent, admirable creativity and the capacity for senseless destruction as well.

On this Excursion you will see:

Mustard Ganesh: Also known as the Sasivikalu Ganesha. 9 foot high single stone statue of the Hindu God of wit and wisdom. Son of Shiva & Parvati.

Peanut Ganesh: Also known as Kadalai Kalu Ganesha, the deity is made of 18 feet high single stone. From here one gets marvelous view of Hampi Market and adjoining areas.

Hamakut Hill: Provides a panoramic view of Virupaksha temple, the northern sector of Hampi and the river Tungabhadra.

Hamakutam Temple: This is a typical example of Jain architecture. It is also known as “Tricota” temple or temple with 3 sanctums, dedicated to Hindu religion.

Virupaksha Temple: It has a 50 m high Gopuram or tower ornamented with exotic figures. Parts of the temple are from the 06th century. Renovated in 1510 by King Krishna Deva Raya, this shrine is still in use and houses an elephant.

Narshima: Single stone statue of half man – half lion incarnation of Vishnu. It is also called Jankanteshwara.

Noblemen’s Palace: This recently discovered palace, suggests there were quarters for aristocrats and high-ranking officials in this palace.

Hampi, the 14th century capital city of the Vijaynagara Empire lies in the Deccan heartland in the state of Karnataka. The ruins spread over an area of more than 26 square kms protected by the river Tungabhadra in the north and by rocky granite ridges on the other three sides.

TAJ MAHAL

Taj Mahal of Agra is one of the eight wonders of the world and perhaps the only one dedicated to Love. Its architectural beauty and marvelous precision surpassed all architectural forms. The Taj is the most beautiful monument built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The entire mausoleum is built entirely in white marble. Its stunning fountains and gardens create a dream ambience especially when the Taj Mahal glows in the light of the full moon.

Taj Mahal is the most well preserved and architecturally beautiful tomb in the world. It is studded with precious stones. In the basement is the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal and the tomb of Shah Jehan. The emperor had intended that a Black Taj be built across the Jamuna where his body would be kept. However his son Emperor Aurangzeb, who imprisoned his father in Agra Fort and took over the throne, buried him alongside of Mumtaz.  Tourists from all over the world and even State Guests make it a point to be photographed at the Taj. Also close by is the famous Agra Fort. So exquisite is the workmanship that the Taj has been described as “having been designed by giants and finished by jewelers”.
