Tyarrekoppa Lion Safari is an ideal lion and tiger safari park established in 1988. It is situated 10 kms from Shimoga village on the way to Sagar Town. Shimoga, the historic city in the neighboring Indian state of Karnataka is well known for its visually stunning locations brimming with picture postcard scenic beauty, waterfalls and tall palms carpeted with luxuriant green paddy field.
Shimoga is 275 kms by road from Bangalore, nestling at an altitude of 640 m above sea level. Tunga, Bhadra, Shravathi, Varada and Kumadvathi rivers have made this district a rice bowl in the state. The tiger and lion safari is spread around an area of 200 hectares of dense forests with lions, tigers, cheetah, bear, deer and rare migratory birds. The Karnataka Forest Department organizes regular recreation and sightseeing outings to these places. Photography is not allowed in this safari.
